Safety Center

Last Updated: July 7, 2026

Burg Social connects you with people, places, and events in your area. Meeting people in person is exciting - but it also comes with real-world risks. This page provides safety guidance for using Burg Social responsibly.

In an Emergency

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency services first. Do not wait for Burg Social to respond. Your safety comes first.

After ensuring everyone is safe, you can report the situation to us at safety@burgsocial.com or through the in-app Report button.

Meeting People

  • Meet in well-lit, public places - especially the first time you meet someone.

  • Tell a trusted friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to be back.

  • Arrange your own transportation to and from any meeting. Do not rely on someone you have just met for a ride.

  • Keep your phone charged and accessible.

  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, leave.

Attending Events

  • Check event details carefully before attending. Confirm the location, time, and organizer.

  • Let someone know which event you are attending and where it is.

  • If an event does not match its description, or if you feel uncomfortable, leave.

  • Burg Social facilitates event discovery and user-created event organization. We do not supervise, host, guarantee, sponsor, or control user-created events unless explicitly stated.

  • Organizer identity is not guaranteed by Burg Social, even if the organizer has a verified profile.

Burg Groups

  • Group leaders and co-leaders set the tone for their group. If a group feels unsafe or violates our Community Guidelines, report it.

  • Be cautious about sharing personal information in group settings, especially with people you have not met in person.

Drinks, Nightlife, and Alcohol

  • Nightlife, bar, and alcohol-related areas of Burg Social are restricted to users 21 and older.

  • If you choose to drink, do so responsibly. Know your limits.

  • Never leave your drink unattended.

  • Arrange a safe ride home before you go out. Use a rideshare, taxi, designated driver, or public transit.

  • Look out for your friends. If someone appears overly intoxicated or in distress, help them get to safety.

Transportation

  • Always arrange your own way to and from events or meetups.

  • Use trusted rideshare services, taxis, public transit, or drive yourself.

  • Share your ride details or live location with a trusted contact when traveling to meet someone new.

  • Do not get into a vehicle with someone you do not know or trust.

  • Plan ahead: rideshare and public transit options can be limited in parts of Vermont, especially in rural areas and late at night. Arrange your ride home before you go out.

Verification Is Not a Safety Guarantee

Burg Social may display a verified badge and, where supported, verified identity/status indicators or verified name information on user profiles. This means only that the user completed an identity verification process through Didit or another third-party provider at that time.

Verification may be powered by Didit. If you start verification, you may be redirected to or interact with Didit, and Didit’s services are governed by Didit’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Verification does not mean:

  • Burg Social has performed a background check.

  • The user is safe, trustworthy, honest, or law-abiding.

  • Burg Social endorses the user or guarantees their identity or safety.

  • The user has no criminal history.

  • The user’s future conduct will be appropriate.

Always exercise your own judgment, regardless of anyone’s verification status.
