Community Guidelines
Effective: July 14, 2026
These guidelines are subject to change.
Burg Social is a hyperlocal discovery and social app launching first across Vermont, built for local communities everywhere we operate. These guidelines exist to keep the community genuine, safe, and useful. They apply to all content you post, events you create, messages you send, Burg Groups you run, and interactions you have through the Service.
By using Burg Social, you agree to follow these guidelines and our Terms of Service. Violations may result in content removal, account restrictions, or permanent bans.
1. Be Real and Honest
Provide accurate account and verification information, and do not impersonate anyone. You can go by a username or display name, but your registration information, date of birth, and verification information must be truthful and accurate. Fake accounts, fake events, and fake venue claims mislead the community and are prohibited. Post content that accurately reflects the venue, event, or situation you are sharing.
2. Respect Others
Burg Social is for meeting people and discovering your community. That requires treating everyone with basic respect. The following are not allowed:
-
Harassment, bullying, or sustained targeting of any person.
-
Hate speech, slurs, or content that degrades people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, or other protected characteristics.
-
Threats of violence or harm, including implicit threats.
-
Doxxing: sharing someone’s private personal information without their consent.
-
Stalking, following, or tracking another user on or off the platform.
-
Sexual harassment or unwanted explicit content.
3. Protect Minors
Burg Social has a 13+ minimum age. You may not:
-
Post sexual or adult content in spaces visible to minors.
-
Solicit personal information from, or seek to meet, minors.
-
Facilitate grooming, exploitation, or any illegal conduct involving minors.
If you believe a minor is in danger, contact local law enforcement or emergency services immediately. You can also report the account in-app or at safety@burgsocial.com.
4. 21+ Nightlife Areas
Certain nightlife, bar, and alcohol-related features are restricted to users 21 and older. If you access these areas you confirm you meet the age requirement. Do not post content intended to enable or encourage minors to access alcohol or age-restricted venues.
5. Events, Groups, and Communities
Accurate event information. Community Event and Group Event titles, descriptions, dates, times, and locations must be accurate. Do not create fake or misleading events, claim a venue is hosting or involved in your event without its permission, or impersonate a venue or official organizer.
Organizer responsibility. You are responsible for the events you create and host. Burg Social does not supervise, manage, or guarantee user-created events. Organizers must comply with applicable law, venue rules, and applicable age requirements.
Group leadership. Burg Group leaders and co-leaders are responsible for setting and enforcing their group’s standards consistent with these guidelines. Groups that exist to harass, discriminate, facilitate illegal conduct, or scam users will be removed.
No scams or harmful solicitation. Do not use events or Groups to scam users, solicit money under false pretenses, run pyramid schemes, sell illegal goods, or otherwise deceive people for personal gain.
Safety Reminder: Burg Social facilitates discovery and event organization. We do not supervise real-world events. Meet new people in public places, tell someone where you are going, arrange your own transportation, and contact emergency services if you feel unsafe. See our Safety Center.
6. Messaging Conduct
Private messages and group chats are covered by these guidelines. You may not use messaging to harass, threaten, scam, or solicit illegal activity. Unsolicited explicit images or communications to strangers who have not consented are prohibited. If someone asks you to stop contacting them, stop.
7. Fake Content and Misinformation
Do not post demonstrably false information designed to mislead users about venues, events, emergencies, or public safety. Do not create fake venue listings or fake events, tag posts at places you did not actually visit, or post content designed to manipulate what other people see in the Feed or Discover.
8. Reporting and Moderation
Every post, event, Burg Group, and profile has in-app reporting tools. Please use them when you see a violation. Reports are reviewed by Burg Social’s moderation team, which may take the actions described in Enforcement below. We may cooperate with law enforcement when required.
Moderation actions do not create a legal duty to monitor, police, investigate, or prevent harm. Burg Social is not responsible for content it has not been notified about or has not had a reasonable opportunity to review.
9. Appeals
If you believe a moderation action was made in error, you may contact support@burgsocial.com. We will review appeals in good faith. We are not required to reverse a decision but will aim for consistency.
10. Enforcement
Burg Social may take any of the following actions for guideline violations: content removal, warning, feature restriction (such as event creation disabled), temporary suspension, or permanent ban. Severity of action depends on the nature, frequency, and impact of the violation. Serious violations (such as child exploitation, credible threats of violence, or CSAM) may result in immediate permanent ban and reporting to law enforcement.
11. Emergency Situations
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact 911 or your local emergency services first. Do not wait for Burg Social to respond. You may report to us after ensuring safety.
