Account Deletion Policy
Last Updated: July 24, 2026
This policy is subject to change.
This policy explains what happens when you delete your Burg Social account, what data is removed, and what may be retained.
1. How to Delete Your Account
In-App (Preferred): Profile -> Settings -> Account -> Delete account.
You may also request deletion by emailing support@burgsocial.com with the subject line “Account Deletion Request” and your registered email address.
2. What Happens When You Delete
Immediate effect: When you initiate deletion, your account is immediately hidden and disabled. Your profile, posts, and content are no longer visible to other users.
7-day deletion processing period: After you initiate deletion, your account remains hidden and disabled while deletion is pending. You cannot access or restore the account through the current app during this period. After the processing period ends, deletion or anonymization proceeds as described below.
After the deletion processing period: Your account data is deleted or anonymized. This is not a simple deactivation - your profile will not be recoverable after the deletion processing period ends and deletion processing is complete.
3. What Is Removed Upon Deletion
After the deletion processing period, the following are generally removed from active app surfaces or deleted:
-
Your public profile, display name, profile photo, and bio.
-
Your posts, place posts, and comments. If a comment you made has replies, a “comment deleted” notice may remain to preserve the thread for others.
-
Your participation in Burg Groups.
-
Your listed events, where removal is technically feasible without disrupting attendees.
-
Your first-party interaction events and any derived personalization or preference scores.
-
Avatar snapshot URLs associated with your posts. After deletion or anonymization, your posts render without an avatar.
4. What May Be Retained After Deletion
Even after account deletion, certain data categories may be retained for safety, legal, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, backup, or operational purposes:
Messages and recipient copies. When you delete your account, your identity in conversations may appear as “Deleted User.” Copies of messages delivered to other participants may remain in their message threads, devices, caches, or backups. We cannot guarantee retroactive removal of messages from all recipients. Message and conversation data is generally hard-deleted from our systems after all participants in a conversation have deleted it and an additional 30-day processing period.
Event history. Event history, including past and cancelled events, is generally retained. Cancelled events display a clear cancelled status.
Safety and moderation records. Reports you filed, reports filed about you, moderation actions, and enforcement logs are generally retained for 5 years. Records related to serious safety, legal, fraud, or repeat-abuse cases may be retained longer.
Verification metadata. Limited verification fields (name, date of birth, age, gender information, status) are generally retained for 3 years after account deletion. Burg Social does not store raw identity documents, selfie images, biometric templates, or face geometry.
Backups. Data may persist in backup and disaster recovery systems for up to 90 days after deletion from active systems.
Business and administrative records. If you contacted Burg Social or acted on behalf of a business, venue, or organizer, we may retain related business, administrative, support, dispute, accounting, safety, fraud-prevention, or operational records after deletion of a personal user account where reasonably necessary for those purposes. Public app surfaces tied to your deleted personal account will be handled according to the account deletion process described above, but separate business records may be retained under our business-record retention practices.Aggregated and anonymized data. Data that cannot be tied back to you individually.
Content subject to legal holds. Content involved in ongoing disputes, legal proceedings, or law enforcement requests.
5. Verification Provider Data
Data processed by Didit or another Verification Provider during verification is subject to the provider’s own data retention and deletion policies. Didit’s services are governed by Didit’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. Burg Social cannot guarantee deletion of data held independently by the Verification Provider.
