What social media was meant to be.

Discover what's happening nearby right now.

Burg is a location-based social app built around what's near you, right now. See posts from people inside your radius, browse nearby venues and official events on a map, and organize with Burg Groups around real-world plans — without an endless global feed.

It's built for real-world local activity, so posts only stay in the feed temporarily by design. What's happening here, not a forever archive. We're launching across Vermont, focusing on real local communities first, before launching elsewhere.

Why Burg exists

Social media should help you discover your city.

Social media should make real life better.

Feeds that pull you out of your city, not into it, are broken. Burg is built around going outside, not scrolling longer.

Help people discover what's around them.

The most useful answer to "what's happening?" is local, fresh, and tied to a real place — not a trending hashtag.

Make neighborhoods feel alive again.

When people can see what's going on a few blocks away, more shows up. Streets, venues, and communities benefit.

Inside the app

Five surfaces. One local-first app.

Everything in Burg happens across five main surfaces — shown here as real views of the app. Together they take you from seeing what's nearby to actually being part of it.

Burg Social screen
Social
Chats, groups, and local activity.

Open direct and group chats, find Burg Groups, review requests and notifications, and keep up with the local circles you're part of.

Burg Create Event screen
Create
Start posts, events, groups, and feedback.

Share a feed post, add a Community Event or Group Event, start a Burg Group or group chat, or send feedback from one creation hub.

Burg Feed screen
Feed
Nearby posts and group activity.

Read fresh posts from people and groups within your radius, react or comment, and search the feed for what's happening around you right now.

Burg Discover screen
Discover
Nearby places and plans on a map.

Browse venues, official events, food, nightlife, Community Events, and Group Events near you, with provider listings kept distinct from Burg-created gatherings.

Burg Profile screen
Profile
Your identity, saved items, and settings.

Manage your profile, discovery radius, saved venues and events, followed organizers, Burg Tips, privacy, blocking, and account controls.

Burg Groups

Local groups for plans, places, and smaller communities.

Burg Groups help people organize around shared interests, neighborhoods, favorite venues, events, and recurring plans — the smaller communities inside the wider local area. Join one to keep up with a circle you care about, or start one to give a plan a home.

Groups run through the app.

Social holds membership and conversation, Create starts Group posts and Group Events, Feed can surface Group activity, Discover can show nearby public Group Events, and Profile ties your Group life to you.

Plan around what is happening.

Turn recurring plans into Group Events, coordinate around neighborhoods, venues, and shared interests, and keep the conversation close to the local activity it's about.

Build smaller local circles.

A weekly run club, a block's neighbors, a venue's regulars, a campus crew — Groups give the smaller communities inside your local area a home on Burg.

Discover

Organized so you can find the kind of nearby activity you want.

Discover is the map of what's going on around you, split into clear lanes. The place is the location, the event is what's happening there, and Discover helps connect the two — so each lane answers a different version of "what's happening near me?"

Venues

Places with something going on.

Spots near you that have an upcoming official event — sourced from providers like Ticketmaster and Eventbrite where available. It's the venues where something's actually happening, not a generic place list.

Events

Official, ticketed events.

Concerts, shows, and ticketed happenings near you — sourced from providers like Ticketmaster and Eventbrite where available. Official event discovery, not crowd-sourced posts.

Food

Restaurants near you.

Restaurants and food spots near you, from available local place data. If a restaurant has an event, it can also show up alongside the related venues and events.

Nightlife

Bars and clubs near you.

Bars, clubs, and nightlife spots from available local place data — with 21+ context where it applies. If a bar or club hosts an event, it can also show up under venues and events.

Community

Local events made by people on Burg.

Block parties, pop-ups, neighborhood gatherings, one-time meetups, student-hosted events, local celebrations — Community Events are created by people on Burg, not imported from big ticketing or place platforms.

Groups

Plans from your local circles.

Local Groups make plans too. Discover can show nearby public Group Events, so you can see what local circles are already doing — and find one worth joining.

Save places & events

Tag spots you want to try and events you don't want to miss. Your city, organized around what you actually care about.

Connect around real-world moments

Posts are tied to places and times — so the conversation has a setting, not just a vibe.

Verification & accounts

One Burg for everyone. Verification adds trust where it counts.

Everyone on Burg uses the same five surfaces. Explore public Groups and Events before verifying, and complete ID verification when you want additional trust controls, verified-only audiences, and higher hosting limits. Verification is there to support trusted activity, not to gate the basics. Here's what it changes across the app.

Business & venues

Update a venue or send an upcoming event.

Venue owners can send optional info updates and upcoming venue events for free.

Vermont first

Built for one state before trying to be everywhere.

Hyperlocal apps fail when they spread too thin. Burg is launching across Vermont — sharpening the experience town by town before expanding. If you're a venue, organizer, or community in Vermont who'd like to be part of it, we'd love to hear from you.

Safety & privacy principles

Local discovery without giving up your privacy.

  • 13+ only

Burg is for users 13 and older.

  • Adults see adults, minors see minors

Feed and friend-style queries enforce age-cohort visibility, so adult and minor experiences stay separate.

  • No live location sharing between users

We don't broadcast your live location to other people on the app.

  • No third-party behavioral tracking

Burg uses activity on Burg to make features like Feed more relevant. Local place and event info can also come from direct submissions or documented external sources, but we do not build behavioral profiles with third-party ad trackers or advertising identifiers.

  • Verification for trust controls

Verification supports verified-only audiences, higher hosting limits, message-request protections, and Place Post creation. It is not required to browse eligible public Groups or Events.

  • Posts stay in the feed temporarily

Burg is built for what's happening here, not a permanent feed archive. You can delete your posts, and account deletion removes your posts and comments under our deletion policy.
